Breaking Waves, How Fake Stakes Ate the Cake

Solo exhibition and performance

Taxter and Spengemann, New York, NY

December 23, 2011 - February 14, 2012

The installation consisted of a conference table and 20 shrink-wrapped books. Each book was based on a relationship to one other person. These people were invited to unwrap, read, or perform each book over the course of the show. One reader was my dad, another was the child of a professor who exploited his position. The various actions shifted focus from an economy of objects to a complex value structure based in relationships.

Tare sheets from various books hung on marooned painted walls. Excerpts from the book Cara Benedetto in Conversation with Michael Douglas, depicting the film Wall Street, highlighted the 2008 financial crisis. All books were self published on Blurb.com and distributed by Art Metropole.

This was the last show at Taxter and Spengemann.
