Predator

Performance and installation with Davida Nemeroff

Public Pool Gallery, Los Angeles, CA

August 1, 2018

Nemeroff and I were invited by artist and Bren Perry to do a show at Public Pool Gallery, an alternative art space based out of a residential pool and backyard in Encino, California. The single performance was a play in three parts within a staged LA pool party, written by me, with props and choreography by Nemeroff, performed by both.

As people entered the party they were welcomed with my voice reading from a text I wrote while listening to testimonies in the trial against rapist Larry Nassar. Meanwhile two bodies in formal evening attire floated in the pool face down. At the end of the act, Nemeroff came to life and attempted to save me by throwing bandaids, then money, and even doing my nails. The second act was a dialogue between characters based on confused feminists. Act three consisted of a synchronized swimming routine to 'Get on your knees' by Nicki Minaj.

The three acts examined predatory relationships, healing processes, and support structures between women.
